CosmosI haven't a clue where the artist name Vampire Nation comes from, but don't let it throw you off. There is some good music here. This CD combines ambient space music with solid rhythms and the repetitive patterning of simple melodies.

In virtually all ancient cultures, different kinds of repetitive percussion sounds were developed and utilized to induce trance states in dancers, musicians, and listening audiences. The development of synthesizers and electronic music has now offered musicians the potential to take these trance traditions to the next level.

My reservations about Cosmos are purely subjective in that I found some of the non-melodic sound effects intrusive enough to bump me out of the entrancing process. Now, with that said, there are some very good tracks on this CD. I found the songs "Spear Fishing" and "Land of Gods" especially good "trancers" with their combinations of complexly layered rhythms and ambient flowing orchestration.

This music is not for everyone, and it can be an interesting trail to follow for those who want to explore altered states through hypnotic music. This CD can be ordered at: Hexagon Records, PO Box 42303, Pittsburgh, PA 15203 or www.hexagonrecords.com.
