The group Grace Note has been together for ten years. They have now collectively released five CD albums. Grace Note consists of Tom Williams, Martin Scudder, Gerry Skendarian and Bob Grubel. They are all members of a loose community scattered across the hippie heaven of Floyd County, Virginia. Their music has been reviewed previously in this column, and they now have released a new album titled Fragrance of the Rose. By way of the lyrics and melodies of Grubel, this music is created to heal the heart and inspire us all beyond the troubles of our daily lives to remember our spiritual origins.

There are 15 songs on this album with styles of music ranging from folk to Irish ballad to light rock. The instruments are guitar, keyboards, bass and violin. Even though Grace Note's harmonies are tight and precise as in the song "Tis a Gift," my personal favorite turns out to be the instrumental on track 11. It features Martin on violin and it is a toe tapper, both uplifting and soulful at the same time. All of these songs cut a simple and direct route to the heart. They are filled with good feelings and best intentions that we remember our sojourn here is for the learning and celebration of life.

If you are looking for music to get you through a tough time, this album is a deep drink of truth. Grace Note's music always inspires my nodding head smiles of knowing and accepting the humanity of us one and all. I hope that it does the same for you. This album CD can be ordered from Grace Note, 178 Zephyr Circle, Floyd, VA 24091 or email singnbob@hotmail.com.
