The album CD Brink is a combination of rock, folk and jazz all interwoven with Eastern musical tonalities and lyrics. With the support of musician friends, Dave Stringer utilizes an udu, tamborua and dumbek for percussion, with santoor, sarangi, harmonium, flute and cello for melodies. There are eleven songs on Brink. This album is an extension of Dave Stringer's spiritual quest. He sings with true introspection of love, life purpose, and the higher Self. Even on the first listening, his sincerity shines through. There are moments of hearing him sing that the sounds of Stringer's soul reaches through his voice to stir sameness in this listener. This is especially noticeable in the song "Corpse Waiting To Happen," which probably relates to "who is dragging around this decaying body," a question to be explored in meditation that comes out of the Hindu traditions. Some of the lyrics are sung in Sanskrit, immediately followed by singing the English interpretation, verse by verse. Other songs are almost straight-up American rock, such as "Checking the Arithmetic," "The Homing Instinct," and "Satellite Sky." This album is an intriguing exploration both in musical styles and lyrical meanings. It can be ordered from Valley Entertainment, 333 West 52 St., New York, NY 10019.
