Ancestral CrossingScott Hartley's concept for the CD album Ancestral Crossings is to acknowledge our ancestral heritage and those who made crossings of courage generations ago. Even though his style may vary from quiet ballad to jazzy, there is an Irish or Celtic flavor woven through many of the songs on this album.

Instruments featured on this album are primarily piano and violin, although there are flute, penny whistle, recorder, piccolo guitar, cello, saxophone and voice as well. Hartley's piano playing is bright, crisp and precise. At times, it is open and sparse, as on the third song (titled "Nomads"), and at other times it is complex and dramatic, as on the 8th song (titled "Tribal Nocturne").

There are many well-written melodies that are easy on the ear and the heart on the album Ancestral Crossings. It is quietly reflective enough to make good listening for glass-of-wine evenings at home, and there are enough up-tempo songs to make it enjoyable listening while driving or being active as well.
