Ernest S. Holmes, 2002
Square One Publishers, Garden City Park, NY
Ernest S. Holmes was only 22 years old
when he wrote his first book on the Science of Mind. In little
more than 100 pages, Creative Mind lays out the basic
philosophy and concepts that grew into the United Church of
Religious Science and became the cornerstone of the metaphysical
warrior's cry "our thoughts create our reality."
Holmes teaches that the power of creation that exists within
our own minds is, in fact, a part of the Divine Mind that
created all that is. Significantly, we are reminded to think
only on all that is good and positive, if that is what we
desire to create in our lives. Holmes even admonishes that
non-resistance to negativity is the only way to abolish it
from our lives, because to resist is to create an image in
our minds with which we are engaging in conflict, therefore
breathing life into the very thing we wish to resist. Thus,
we are to bless all that we have, giving no thought to that
which we do not have, in order to create the flow of all abundance
and abolish all creation of lack. In an era that had just
seen the end of the first world war, Dr. Holmes laid out a
joyful philosophy of life that encompasses spirituality in
all its permutations. His philosophy is still timely now,
when many of us are struggling with rebelliousness, debt,
and ignorance.
