Barefoot on Holy GroundLetting go is a total experience that will be acted out in mind, body, and spirit. When things are frozen, there isn't much pain; it's when they defrost that the pain begins." Anyone who has ever come in from the cold and felt the painful tingling in their fingers or toes as the extremities begin to warm again can completely understand this concept. I love the way Karpinski has organized this book. The first third encourages us to return to the love of the Divine as we learned it early in childhood before fear and dogma kicked in. She teaches us that it is not the religion that is important but the knowledge of the Divine within us that enables us to become spiritual disciples. Karpinski defines discipleship as commitment and offers many wonderful stories of how others have come to declare their own paths of discipleship whether to the environment, children, the homeless, etc. The rest of the book teaches us how to craft our walk on Holy Ground through connection with others, prayer, journaling, meditation, and exercises. My favorites are the journaling seeds and the exercises that she offers! This would be a great book to use in a spiritual study circle!
