For those of you who are more inclined towards classical music yet still want the soothing comfort most often found in the new age genre, the CD album Afterglow is a "must have" album. Afterglow is full of paradoxes and complementary contradictions. It has been composed without writing the music down so that, as in the spirit of jazz, each of these superb musicians has had the freedom to bring something very personally true to the creation of this music.

Michael Hoope is a keyboardist and composer. He has scored feature films and has been a contributor on fifteen gold records. Martin Tillman is a Swiss cellist and composer with classical training and has performed on thirty other albums. Tim Wheater is a world class flutist and composer who has recorded over a dozen albums and performed in styles as diverse as rock/pop with the Eurythmics and classical with many major symphony orchestras.

From the very first track on this CD, you will discover that this music can penetrate your heart of hearts to deeply stir and bring to the surface complex combinations of emotion. The first song is titled "The Waiting." It opens with a distant, thundering rain storm and is joined by Tillman's dramatic cello which, as I listened, drew me into long forgotten feelings of dissolving myself into true communion with others. And yet, after touching old friend memories and sadness of unfulfilled potential, Wheater's flute once again lifted my spirits to joy and opened me to forgiveness of myself and others. In listening to this music, it is possible to discover how genuinely fragile we are as human beings and how amazingly strong we are as spiritual beings. Of my personal favorite songs, there is the fourth track, titled "Land of Serenity," which leads into the fifth song, titled "The Longing." In both of these songs, a Native American style flute brings an undercurrent of melancholic longing to a delicate balance of fragile hope.

It is a special musical gift to bring up true emotions and yet another gift to move the listener through those feelings. Afterglow will put you in touch with your feelings. It is profoundly beautiful and emotionally healing music.

Afterglow is available at Dancing Moon Bookstore in Raleigh for preview listening. You can order it through Dancing Moon or Hearts of Space, P. O. Box 31321, San Francisco, CA 94131 or www.hos.com.
