Shifting Sands

Highlights:
October’s full moon is in Taurus on the 26th.
November’s full moon is in Gemini on the 24th.
Mercury retrograde starts October 12 through November 2.

Crystal Portals
Mystics believe that certain events create a portal or opening that allows one to see visions of the future and receive information from the otherworld. Halloween is one such yearly event when the “veil” that separates the worlds is thin. At this time, people often report communication with loved ones who have passed on.

On October 31 of this year, the planet Neptune turns direct. Neptune has been moving backwards all summer, and its forward motion on this significant date will have a strong influence on our collective consciousness. This year’s portal is “crystal” in nature, and its visionary essence will be extremely strong. I encourage you to take time to tap into the powerful energies present to gather information for your personal destiny and life path.

The Direct Influence
Mercury enters a retrograde period on the 12th of October. The planet will continue to move backwards until the 2nd of November when it turns direct.

As always during a Mercury retrograde, take care to avoid contracts and legal documents. Caution is advised if traveling, and you should ensure that all arrangements are made prior to the retrograde period. The main difficulty with a Mercury retrograde is breakdown in communications. Take precautions in how you are communicating, especially in written documents since misunderstandings can easily arise.

Mars in Cancer goes retrograde on the 15th of November. Stay aware of health concerns at this time and be careful that you are not overworking yourself. Balancing work and play are even more essential now in order to keep the energy flowing in a healthy manner.

There is a tendency for the body to dehydrate under this influence, so monitor water intake carefully.

Jupiter spends October and November in Sagittarius. Exploring spiritual and educational growth through travel is the theme at this time. This is not restricted to mere physical travel but can encompass exploration of body, mind and spirit.

A note of caution is called for under this influence since an intellectual “fullness” can develop. This can lead to an ego-guided sense of having all the answers. Watch out for issues related to self trust. This is a perfect time to work at developing a greater degree of self awareness.

Saturn is still in the early stages of its journey in Virgo. You’ll notice the birth of new themes with the fall weather. The idea of seeking perfection can begin to dominate certain areas of life, and it is important to focus on practical service. Saturn can be a harsh taskmaster and demand hard work from those heavily influenced by it.

Be careful of imbalances in your life during the fall months. This is especially true in the areas of work/career and health. Withdrawing from situations is not always the answer. To create order out of the chaos it is sometimes necessary to yield to certain energies. Work to understand the challenges around you and learn when to give in and when to fight. Situations won’t be as clear during this time but by striving to serve the greater good, you will benefit yourself more quickly than you imagine.

The outer planets are creating strong dynamics related to group karma. Spiritual and social circles will change and evolve. It’s not always an easy process but by early November the social landscape around you will be very different. New connections and spiritual relationships spring into being under these dynamic energies. Pay attention and be careful not to get stuck in old, outdated paradigms. Pluto in the late degrees of Sagittarius will create an urge to travel and explore. Overseas journeys are beneficial after the first week of November. Travel at this time can accelerate the awakening process on a deep level so consider even short trips with a spiritual focus to benefit from these strong energies.

The Global Outlook
Early October will continue to see much international conflict and stress. Difficult weather patterns strain many areas of the world especially Central America and parts of Europe. Earthquakes and volcanoes are especially active.

By late October, the outer planets bring a renewed focus to humanitarian ideals. Spiritual groups get a fresh burst of energy with the approaching holiday season. Global concerns get more attention, especially in matters related to health care and food supplies. Don’t expect any dramatic changes yet but the seeds are certainly being sown for changes in the way the international community responds to people in need.

Winter will come suddenly and early in many areas.
