The Body/Mind Health Corner™

Dear Steven,

I've spoken to you before.  About 8 months ago I was sitting in this chair at work and all of a sudden I felt this  tension move to my left shoulder and under my arm pit.  It feels like I can't relax.  Previously to that I went to the dentist and had a crown on my upper right molar.  I'm wondering if this has something to do with this because the muscles on my left side of my face seem to appear as if they are more in use.  Also I have an area between my left shoulder blade and spine that I think is being affected by this.

I was living with my son and if you recall I had him evicted about four months ago.  I work about 30 hours a week but honestly my life is not to exciting.  Could you comment.  I would like to take care of my shoulder.  I tried acupuncture but it only helped my lower back.

Maggie, North Carolina

Dear Maggie,

The left arm deals with receiving love and support, while the shoulder reflects a thought of "having to receive that support" or that you "should" receive that support. The shoulder blade tension reflects guilt that, after evicting your son, you may "never get that support from him", and/or that you don't "deserve the support form others." Also, the armpit reflects the feeling that you may be relying on (using as a crutch) getting the support from your son so that you can support yourself on that decision.

Additionally, trauma to the body, and exposure to some toxins can make you more sensitive to stress. And, having gone through an inordinate amount of stress, you may also be more sensitive to environmental toxins. You may be "too" sensitive to his feelings. You may even be tapping into past experiences when someone else CHOSE to feel hurt because you set your boundaries.

Focus on your shoulder. Massage it, love it, while you focus on a more positive reality - you have given others the wonderful gift of supporting them on supporting themselves. You can feel complete with others even if they do not feel complete with you. You can forgive yourself even if others do not forgive you.

Positive Thought to Manifest: I SAFELY support others on receiving the support they need. I SAFELY acknowledge others' strengths.

You don't need to give up YOUR space in order to support others on claiming theirs.
