Acupuncture and T'ai Chi:
Great Add-ons to Your Weight Loss Plan
The best way of controlling your weight is by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Acupuncture and T'ai Chi provide fun ways to curb unhealthy food cravings, reduce stress, and exercise. Acupuncture and T'ai Chi can offset food cravings because they release endorphins into the brain, helping to alleviate food withdrawal. In addition, releasing endorphins helps to reduce stress and helps to curtail the over-production of Cortisol, a mechanism that helps our bodies store fat. Acupuncture and T'ai Chi are also effective in stimulating the hypothalamus, an area in the brain that controls the appetite and hormone production and regulates the autonomic nervous system.

Vegetarian Diets for Keeping Slim
“People who switch to a vegetarian diet typically lose about 10 percent of their body weight,” says Amy Joy Lanou, Ph.D., an assistant professor at UNC-Asheville and nutrition scientist with Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). “Countless studies published in the scientific literature show that resolving to go meat-free in 2007 is the best way to slim down and get healthy.” Six studies conducted around the world 2006 link vegetarian diets with healthy body weight, improved heart health, increased insulin sensitivity, and other benefits. Many other studies from previous years presented similar results.
Environmentally Friendly “Green” Computers Explode in Popularity
With growing interest in “green” computers, more than 300 computers have been registered with EPEAT, the new EPA-funded green computer standard released in July 2006. Nine manufacturers currently participate in the program. The EPA estimates that over the next five years purchases of EPEAT-registered computers will result in reductions of more than 13 million pounds of hazardous waste, more than 3 million pounds of non-hazardous waste, and more than 600,000 MWh of energy (enough to power 6 million homes).
