This award-winning feature tells the story of a once powerful but now old and ailing film producer, Donald, played by Kirk Douglas, who finds himself in deep regret over rejecting his only child, an illegitimate son named Christopher. Late one night the legendary director is “awakened” by the ghost-like presence of his dear friend and editor, Stan, who has been dead for more than 35 years. Stan offers to show Donald three “visions” of his son’s life. He watches, at first suspiciously and ultimately captivated, as each vision shows his son at different stages in his pursuit of the woman he loves. What the old man sees is the tragic life of the son he never claimed. But, even on his deathbed, the old man discovers the possibility of redemption and the discovery of surprising truths about his son and himself.
This powerful and uplifting film is the creation of Michael Goorjian (“Party of Five”) who, as writer/director/co-star of ILLUSION, literally bet the farm to make this film. After winning the First Place Feature and Audience Choice Awards at the 2005 Spiritual Cinema Festival-At-Sea he said: “I was, as they say in Poker, all in. I spent all of my money, that of my friends and family, and maxed out every credit card I could get my hands on to make this film,” he explained.
“One of the best films I’ve seen in years.
When most films are devoid of soulful content,
[ILLUSION] bursts off the screen with ideas and emotions that
touch hearts and minds. Douglas’ performance is staggering…
The kind of film we've been yearning for.”
~ Mark Vicente, Director of What The Bleep Do We Know?
“ILLUSION grabs you by the heart in the very first frame and never lets go…
Kirk Douglas gives the most touching and indelible performance
of his career and co-star/director Michael Goorjian emerges as one of the
most sensitive and visionary directors of his generation.”
~ Stephen Simon, Producer/Director of films
including Somewhere In
Time, What Dreams May Come, and
Conversations with God.
